Our mission is to generate functional tissue from stem cells in order to reveal rules governing organ formation and accelerate progress on regenerative therapeutics.

home-pillars-scaled

Research in the Zandstra Laboratory is focused on the generation of functional tissue from somatic and pluripotent stem cells. Our quantitative, technology-driven approach strives to gain new insights into fundamental mechanisms that control stem cell fate and to develop robust technologies for the propagation of stem cells and their derivatives. Our primary focus is on applying these concepts to the hematopoietic system and differentiation of blood cell lineages. Our work is accomplished through 4 integrated research pillars:

01

Multi-scale simulation of human tissue- and organo-genesis

02

Synthetic control of cell fate and function

03

Cell niche engineering

04

Cellular therapeutics
